At UN Biodiversity summit (COP15) it was proposed that 30% of land, inland waters and the ocean be substantially protected by 2030. This treaty was ratified by many nations. In March this year it became legally binding 120 days after the 60 th nation signed.
MPA or Marine Protected Areas are planned to cover 30% of the ocean’s international waters which make up 60% of the planet’s marine ecosystems. In January this year The High Seas Treaty was signed which legally protects 30% of the international waters of the world’s oceans to ensure management, sustainability and biodiversity of international marine ecosystems. The treaty aims to ensure equitable distribution of the world’s marine resources including landlocked nations.
