The security of our natural resources depend on achieving sustainability. If we deplete our natural resources they will not be there for future generations. Our planet only has limited natural resources and we need to live lightly in the land. Pollution from sewage and storm water can be turned into a resource. Keeping our oceans clean helps maintain the viability of marine life. When we pick up rubbish we break the cycle of pollution. When we plant trees we maintain the sustainability of wildlife habitat, our atmosphere and our renewable natural resources.

Have you ever been repulsed by accumulated rubbish on city streets?  Have you ever felt unsafe in these areas?  Accumulated rubbish means the area is not being cared for.  Most city councils employ street cleaners however sadly it is often the case that even though there are street cleaners employed there is still an accumulation of rubbish on our streets.

This month at the Spruce Initiative we look into how rubbish and pollution impact our perception of our environment.  Have you ever noticed how rubbish looks out of place in a clean environment.  Clean environments are well cared for and hence secure.

Environments where rubbish has accumulated aren’t well cared for and this leads these environments to be insecure.  If people in the neighbourhood are prepared to pick up rubbish, the neighbourhood becomes cared for and the tendency to leave rubbish there is overcome.
