World Environment Day and Spruce
World Environment Day and Spruce
May 11, 2026
The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “Now For Climate”. This is a call for immediate action to stabilise our planetary ecosystems. The global temperatures have risen by 1.5 degrees Celsius sooner than anticipated and immediate action is required to prevent an acceleration of global warming and climate change.
We have experienced disturbances to global weather patterns which have resulted in droughts, wildfires, floods, hurricanes and tornados. We need to take immediate action to combat these occurrences.
Together we have the ability to stabilise our weather patterns. We need to think globally and act locally. If we each planted just one tree annually in celebration of Spruce Day, January 5, that’s 8 billion trees per annum.
If you are able why not plant additional trees for your less fortunate neighbours or sponsor research into preserving the oxygenation power of the ocean. Stabilising ocean currents and temperatures is an important way of modifying the climate.
Advocating for cleaner oceans by picking up a pice of rubbish when you are out on your daily walk is a first step towards keeping our waterways clean. Rubbish which is not picked up eventually finds its way into our lakes and oceans. This being the case specialised equipment is needed to retrieve the rubbish.
Picking up rubbish daily ensures that the situation with regard to the rubbish in the environment is sustainable and doesn’t get out of hand.
If we act now to ensure stabilisation of our climate we can prevent the acceleration of climate change and we will see the results as the climate normalises.
Together we can do this however we need to act quickly and decisively. The situation is serious however if we agree to take immediate action, the situation is manageable.
We have shown what we can achieve when we came together to defeat COVID. Now with the cooperation of our global communities we can arrest climate change.
We encourage you to take action now. Pick up rubbish. Restore wildlife habitat on land and in the ocean. Plant trees and advocate for lean air and water.
Clean and green is our strategy. Remember one piece a day sends the rubbish away. Don’t just clean, let’s Spruce!
Cheers, Felicity
