Traditions and Being Good to Ourselves
Traditions and Being Good to Ourselves
Nov 12, 2025
At the Spruce Initiative we advocate going for a daily walk and being prepared to pick up one piece of rubbish and disposing of it appropriately. If the piece of rubbish is recyclable see if you can put it in a recycle bin and save some landfill.
Developing the habit of going for a daily walk is good for your health and good for your mind. The Spruce Initiative is a walking meditation practise which leads to awareness of your environment. You can walk either solo or with friends and family.
Establishing habits which are good for us is important for our well being and being prepared to do something for the greater community is good for the health and well being of our communities. Practising with the Spruce Initiative achieves both these goals.
In addition to our daily walk practise we advocate giving back to Nature through the annual planting of a tree. What ever your community we encourage you to engage in the annual tradition of planting a tree.
It is important to our well being to establish traditions that honour the passage of the seasons and support the health of our environment. By planting a tree every year for International Spruce Day January 5 th we establish a new tradition of celebrating the end of the end of year holiday season and Sprucing up our environment in anticipation of the start of a new annual cycle.
Traditions such as practising with the Spruce Initiative are important as they lend structure to our lives and they celebrate both community and the environment.
International Spruce Day was chosen as the twelfth day of the end of year Christmas celebrations. It is the traditional day for taking down Christmas and end of year decorations and Sprucing up our homes and environments to prepare for the year ahead.
We have noted that the majority of holidays celebrate past ,events. The Spruce Initiative celebrates the future health of our communities and environments. It is a new tradition, an update of an old tradition and it is inclusive of the greater community.
This year why not join us doing something good both for yourself, your community and the environment. Establish a new habit of going on a daily walk and being prepared to pick up a piece of rubbish. In addition establish a new tradition of celebrating and Sprucing up our environment by the planting of a tree.
Clean and green is our motto. Remember one piece a day sends the rubbish away. Don’t just clean, let’s Spruce!
Cheers, Felicity
