Paying It Forward
Paying It Forward
Oct 13, 2025
I was having a think about the holidays we celebrate and all of a sudden it struck me that most holidays celebrate something that happened in the past or they celebrate something already established. For instance today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada and it is celebrated by feasting with family and friends. It is a holiday of reflecting on our blessings, celebrating the harvest and the company of loved ones. Thanksgiving Day is an annual holiday.
When we say grace we remember to be thankful for our blessings every day.
The Spruce Initiative takes care of the Earth every day. When we practise with the Spruce initiative we learn to become custodians of our environment. Our environment whether inside or out requires constant attention. The more attention it receives the cleaner and healthier that environment becomes. It is a self righting sustainable solution. The cleaner and more orderly our environment becomes the easier it is to maintain. By committing to pick up one piece of rubbish when we are out on our daily walk or doing something to spruce up our indoors environment we make our environment healthier.
If many people pick up one piece of rubbish when they are out on their daily walk and dispose of it appropriately they make a huge positive change to their environment. When we commit to do one bit of sprucing daily in our homes or community spaces it also leads to lasting positive change. This is the power of micro movements.
If rubbish is attended to daily it doesn’t accumulate. It leads to the sustainability of the environment.
International Spruce Day takes ithis one step further. It pays it forward by giving a lasting gift to the environment. It is a gift for the future of our lives on the planet. The natural environment sustains us, Planting a tree establishes a lasting legacy. It ensures a brighter future as well as celebrating the natural environment.
We remind you that the first step towards a healthy environment is to make it a clean environment but we must also make provision for the future by making our environment sustainable. Trees make oxygen, purify the air, support wildlife habitat, provide food amd shade. Planting trees keeps our environment in balance and beautifies it.
Do remember to give thanks for what we have and remember to take action to ensure a better future.
Clean and green is our motto. Remember one piece a day sends the rubbish away. Don’t just clean, let’s Spruce!
Cheers, Felicity
